Al-Jazeera Nixes Saddam Pics

The Arab cable network Al-Jazeera is refusing to air photos of Saddam Hussein stripped down to his underwear while he was in custody last year, saying the pics, first published Friday by Britain's Sun newspaper, are too offensive.

Though the terrorist-friendly network had no problem broadcasting the gruesome video of the beheading of American Nick Berg, Al-Jazeera spokesman Jihad Ballout told the New York Post:

"The [Saddam] photo is demeaning. From the professional side, it is not news."
Ballout didn't explain why the Berg execution - which featured stomach-churning footage of his head being sawed off, then held aloft by a proud terrorist - had more news value than a photo showing how the deposed dictator has been cut down to size.

Saddam routinely had his own torture victims tape-recorded. Videos of rape room victims would sometimes be delivered to the woman's family.
